Hello and welcome to my blog. This blog will be used primarily (or rather ONLY) for posting research and work I've done for I-media. So yeah...knock yourself out.

Social Networking - last.fm

Last.fm is a social networking site based around music (the largest music social networking site I believe). Festivals have their own pages and can also have their own radio station with artists etc. People can view these pages logged in or not (though logging in allows one to comment and such). Whether this could potentially be fruitful for Meadowlands is unknown but it is certainly something that should be done - I'd imagine it can only help Meadowland festival become more widespread and of course it's free so it shouldn't be missed out.

As far as social networking is concerned last.fm is not as large as Youtube or Facebook. But being music related it's still important to Meadowlands.

Mobile Site - Concept and design.

As this is a mobile website being accessed over a 3G connection it is important to keep images/graphics to a minimum and functionality a priority. People wil be viewing this mobile site on the go at the festival so information should be able to be accessed at one to two clicks/presses.

The first image is a mockup I have done on the Home page. As you can see it's minimal on images (with only the social network links and logo) the rest is text and colours - this can be defined  as a rule in CSS which means load times will be absolutely minimal.

Image 2 shows the 'Artist' page after the 'Music' link has been clicked/pressed and simply shows a list of artists which scroll down the page. Keeping the design consistent so the colours are the same and as it only consists of text links and CSS definable colours load times are kept to a minimum.

Third image shows my mockup of a page that would hold information or a review on a band with a preview link. Rather than embedding a preview I have made an optional Youtube link as to avoid excess loading. I don't want the user to be loading something they may not want to load.

Viral Video - Idea

My idea on the Viral Video is to have a mix of footage and graphics and despite the fact this could end up being quite a challenge, it is the route I wish to take with my Viral video.

A description of my idea in words:

I would film entering Meadowlands (empty) and be sure to capture the nature and beauty of the area and include objects in the field that represent the different events happening at the festival. The idea here is to capture the whole festival in this viral.

Notes I have come up with on my idea for this video:

Viral video:

Include aspects of festival such as Children workshops (Sand with spade).
Comedy/spoken words (mic stand, fridge magnet letters etc)
Guitar and amp.

Camera:

Attach it to something with wheels move around the objects and maybe include text graphics that hover over these objects. (Or text graphics - or indeed no graphics if not needed).

Sound:

Sound would change according to object - guitar and amp - music / Sand and spade - children playing etc.

Ending:

Here should include selling point. Graphics such as logo will come up here.

This first sketch simply represents that I would like the viewers to be able to know this viral video has footage taken from Gynde (though if I have too I can simply not include this and use footage take form somewhere else).

(Sketch of a sign showing Glynde).

The second sketch shows the camera moving towards these objects that represent the festival. It moves in closer on them from a distance. (I don't want this part to last too long otherwise it would be considered boring).

The third sketch shows how the middle part of my Viral will  work. 3 items that represent the festival. The camera moves in/around this objects capturing them.

(Arrow represents camera movement).

Meadowlands project direction (Items for pitch).

Youtube - (ideas for a social network connection)

First of all I believe it would be useful for Meadowlands to have their own Youtube channel where video content can be uploaded too. The screenshot above is an example of this taken from the 'Latitude' Youtube channel. It's nothing complex but helps spread the Meadowlands identity.

It would also be a good idea to include the videos on other sites like 'Vimeo' - this is another large site where videos get uploaded though it is not as big as Youtube.

Mobile Web -

Create a mockup of a website which shows information on everything happening at Meadowlands. This includes:

Band reviews, previews
Gallery
Site map (locations, toilets etc)
External links to social networking sites (Twitter, Facebook, Youtube)

Viral Video -

The idea I have so far for my viral video includes footage of Meadowlands and a blend of graphics. The idea is to keep it short (30 seconds or under).

Other things to note in the presentation would be how to keep the campaign going afterwards and also ideas on social networking as well as promotions etc.
